Video: Question structures

Narration:

Question structures. With questions asking you to give information and explain, there are three common questions types. Here is an example of the first type. It is a closed question, which means that it needs a yes or no type response. Remember though that you should not just answer with a simple yes or no – you need to extend your answer; we will look at this in more detail later in the lesson. The second type is when the question is presented as a statement and asks for an open answer. The statement requires you to talk in general about your family. There are many ways in which a candidate might answer this question. This is an example of the third type of question you could be asked in Part One. Again, it is an open question this time using a question word. It is asking for specific information – in this example, you need to answer by telling the examiner who does the cooking.
