The fifth question type you need to complete in the PTE listening test is the multiple-choice single answer question type.

What you have to do for this question type:

With this type of question, you are judged on your ability to answer a multiple-choice question about the content or tone of the recording you listen to. There is only one correct answer.

Task length and timing:

You will have 5 seconds to read the multiple choice question before an audio recording that is 30-60 seconds long will play automatically. You will only be able to listen once.

More information:

To select the multiple choice answer you think is correct, click on it using the left button on your mouse. The option you select is highlighted in yellow. If you want to change your answer, left-click on the option again to deselect it, or left-click on a different option.

The scoring for this question type:

This question type affects your listening score. Your answer is scored as either correct or incorrect. No credit is given for no response or an incorrect response.

Useful tips:

With this type of question, an important approach is to use the 5 seconds before the recording begins to quickly read the question and the answer options. This will help you make sure you understand the topic – the main points and keywords in the question and the answer options will tell you what information you need to be listening for.
