Model answer – thanking

Now read the model answer below.

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

You have recently attended a job interview but have now decided that you will not take the job if it is offered as you have been given another position with another company you applied to.

Write a letter to the interviewer. In your letter:

• thank them for inviting you to the interview
• explain the situation
• apologise for any problems caused

You should write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses. Begin your letter as follows:

Dear…,

Dear Mr Jones,

I am writing to thank you for inviting me to attend an interview with you and your team on Monday 12th February.

It was a great pleasure to meet you all and to learn more about your organisation. I was extremely impressed by the professional and supportive environment you obviously offer to employees.

However, I am extremely sorry to have to inform you that I now need to withdraw my application as I have recently been offered, and have decided to accept, an alternative position with another company.

I sincerely hope that this does not cause you too much inconvenience and I am certain that you will soon find a suitable candidate for the exciting role you have on offer.

Once again, I would like to extend my thanks for the time you took to see me and your interest in my application.

I wish you and your organisation well for the future.

Kindest regards

Pam Jefferies
