The average person’s diet is becoming increasingly unhealthy and some people believe that advertising of fast food is a major cause of this problem. How can advertising practices be changed to improve this situation?
-
It can be argued that regulations 1. (should/introduce) to control the promotion of junk food in order to improve society’s eating habits. Significant factors support this argument as 2. (will/explain).
Firstly, marketing 3. (use) by many fast food organisations in many cases to specifically target children. Youngsters 4. (attract) to fast food restaurants by the advertising which 5. (aim) at them. These types of eateries often project a fun image and offer free gifts which are irresistible to children. A good example of this situation 6. (can/see) in the advertising and consequent popularity of American fast food chains which 7. (establish) all over the world.
However, the majority of adults are aware of the importance of a balanced diet and it should be the decision of the individual as to what types of food they eat. It is reasonable to argue that grown ups are not as vulnerable as children regarding the advertising images they see. In addition, freedom of choice is important and this freedom 8. (should not/remove) by Government control of private matters such as diet.
A suggested measure of control, given the points of view outlined above, could be that the times at which advertising of fast food 9. (show) on television could be restricted. For example, advertising of fast food 10. (could/ban) during children’s television programmes, but allowed later in the day after children have gone to bed.
In summary, adults 11. (should/allow) to make their own informed decisions regarding consumption of fast food; however, there are benefits to controlling the types of advertisements which 12. (watch) by children.
