Narration:

Before beginning the reading course, you will need to know some information about the test. In the IELTS reading test, you will have 60 minutes to answer 40 questions on three different reading passages. In total, the three passages will be between 2000 and 2750 words long. The passages themselves are taken from a number of different sources – newspapers, magazines, journals or books. They can present factual information or opinions. You will need to transfer your answers to an answer sheet within the 60 minutes. There are a number of different question types.

Your final result is a band from 0 to 9, and can be measured in half bands. For example, you could get a score of 6.5, 7.0 or 7.5. In this table, you can see how many questions you need to get correct for each band score. If you use articles (a, an and the) in your answer, they are included in the word count.  Spelling a word incorrectly means you will not get the mark. With all question types, never leave a blank space in your answer sheet – if you cannot find the answer, write your best guess in the space. You do not lose marks for writing an incorrect answer.
