Narration:

When we describe a process it is more academic and more natural to use the passive instead of an active sentence. We will use the example we have been looking at to demonstrate. In the first stage, purchase, we could write Customers purchase newspapers from retail outlets. However, it would be better to use the passive and say Newspapers are purchased by customers from retail outlets. The next presentation will give a review of how to use the passive, but remember, in order to show a range of grammar, you should use a combination of active and passive sentences in your essay.
