Here are some tips for repeat a sentence questions in the PTE test.
Tip 1: As soon as the speaker has said the sentence, the recorder will start immediately – don’t delay with your answer, and don’t try to write anything down.
Tip 2: Close your eyes and focus ONLY on what you hear. If there is a word or words you don’t know, don’t panic – just repeat the sounds that you hear, even if you are not sure what they mean.
Tip 3: Each sentence you need to repeat can be broken into phrases (groups of words). The majority of the sentences you will hear will have 3 phrases, so break the sentence into these chunks as you listen to make it easier to repeat. For example:
Example 1:
What you hear:
“I have also been considering // teaching English overseas // on a short contract.”
Example 2:
What you hear:
“New experiences can really help // young people to make // new or more informed decisions.”
